Treatment: After being diagnosed with asthma, treatment methods are discussed and started. Often if your symptoms are not severe and sporadic, a rescue inhaler to be used when needed is sufficient. On the other hand if your attacks are regular and rather severe, a controller (inhaled corticosteroids) will be used. Make sure that you are familiar with peak flow meters to determine your lung function.

Allergy tests: Since a majority of the cases especially in younger adults are related to allergen exposure, allergy skin testing (less preferably blood test for ige) should be considered. The result will assist you in avoiding allergen triggers and offer you an option for allergy shots which may provide long-lasting benefits. Follow-up lung function tests are also needed to gauge treatment response.
