Ultrasound: The patient is usually lying on a table, with the region to be scanned exposed. The sonographer will place gel on the skin to facilitate transmission of the sound waves from the scanner into the body. The sonographer will glide the scanner over the skin, producing images on the screen. Unless you are already in pain, it is a painless easy procedure.
