Please explain what do they do in a vp shunt check up?

Specializes in Neurosurgery
CT scan: Usually, if a patient is not having any unusual symptoms, the shunt check up will simply involve a physical exam, history taking, and possibly a CAT scan of the brain to assess the ventricles to make sure the ventricles are not enlarged.

A 50-year-old member asked:
What do they do during a vp shunt check-up?

Neurosurgery 29 years experience
Typically x-ray: An x Ray is a good screen for the integrity of the system. If it is suspected to be failing then surgical exploration may be necessary to determine where the obstruction is.
