The world!: Hyperuricemia is simply elevated blood/serum levels of urate. It may simply be a sign of dehydration or a side effect of medication. Most individuals with gout have hyperuricemia, but not all. Further, most individuals with hyperuricemia do not have gout. Gout diagnosis requires documentation of crystals or certain types of bone damage.
