Not necessarily: Swelling from any hernia repair can last for several weeks and depends in part on whether the surgery involved implantation of mesh or a complex repair. Another cause of persistent swelling could be a seroma or fluid collection at the site of the repair. If the swelling is getting worse or is associated with fever, pain or redness of the area see your doctor as soon as possible.
