Extended period: What seems like a never ending period is typically caused by not having ovulated. This can be cause by stress. It is also seen in women approaching menopause, which may start as early as 40 y/o. It can be aggravated by the presence of fibroids, benign tumors of the uterus. A gynecologic exam and a pelvic ultrasound can help clarify the situation.
