My girlfriend was prescribed sertraline and amitriptyline. i've heard mixing them isnt a good idea the risks outweigh the benefits. what do you think.

I have plenty of: Patients on the combination. The main risk is the zoloft (sertraline) driving up the blood level of the elavil, so i always check Elavil levels and use low doses. Serotonin syndrome is very rare in my experience. I've seen two cases in 30 years of practice. Best wishes.
