It's safe: Upper endoscopy, with a camera to look at the esophagus and stomach, and the ability to take biopsy samples if needed, is very safe when done by a skilled gastroenterologist. A patient should let the doctor know of any dental, denture, or jaw issues, plus inform the staff about any medications one might be allergic to. As with all things in life, rare bad events are possible but unlikely.
