Depends: It really depends on a number of things. Some intermittent spotting is normal, but ongoing menstrual-period-level bright red blood is not. Your birth control choice could impact this some, however. If you're on depo-provera or a progestin-only pill (the "mini-pill"), ongoing spotting or bleeding might be expected.
