It could double: The bodies stress hormones can cause the wbc's that usually stick to the walls of the blood vessels to enter the blood. This can double the total WBC count. The type of WBC would not change significantly, so the distribution between mature neutrophils, immature bands, lymphocytes, etc should be similar.

Wbc counts: While 11k is not all that high, it can rise after "events". Sounds like this may have occurred during a procedure, maybe a tooth extraction. How old is the patient? And does he have a diagnosed seizure disorder prior to this abscess encounter. A "dental abscess" if severe enough can cause a seizure and result in a high WBC count. If there are other "dental abscesses" best to have them addressed.
