Vasoconstriction: The body often responds to infection by having the small blood vessel constriction (vasoconstriction) in the superficial areas of the body which when prolonged would cause a rise in the body core temperature leading to chills then fever. The vasoconstriction -> reduced blood flow to the skin-> chills -> build-up core temperature->fever-> sweating-> chill again etc until infection is over.
