STD Dependent: The std you have will affect the chances of transmission as some are more likely than others to be protected against by barriers. For example, herpes or pubic lice might not be as easily prevented by wearing condoms compared to gonorrha or chlamydia. In general i would wait at least 3 weeks to get re-tested and make sure you're cured before having sex.

Protection works: Of course it all depends on which stds you mean. There are twelve common stds. But, protection works for most of the common ones that you may be meaning such as chlamydia and gonorrhea. Rocephin (ceftriaxone) was the correct treatment for gonorrhea and you should be contagiousness free forty-eight hours after the shot.
