Depends: If you just lost your ability to smell/taste in the past day or so, use oxymetazoline (afrin) 1 spray each nostril 3x a day followed 10 minutes later by using nasal saline irrigations (sinus rinse or neti poti). Only use the afrin for up to 3 days, saline can be used indefinitely. If your sense of smell is not back in the next 3 days, get checked out.
