Something can be done: Large volume stone disease may be problematic however defining the anatomy of the collecting system and obtaining a systematic approach to removal of the stones usually can be successfully performed. Open surgical techniques are seldom required. Ureteroscopy with nephroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy and eswl therapies can all be employed to make progress.
