Both are PPI's: Pariet tablets contain the active ingredient rabeprazole, which is a type of medicine called a proton pump inhibitor (ppi). Nexium is another ppi acid blocker drug. Currently, this class of agents includes: Prilosec (omeprazole), Prevacid (lansoprazole), Aciphex (rabeprazole), Protonix (pantoprazole), and second generation variants of these (nexium, dexilant, (dexlansoprazole) zegerid). Choose the one you prefer.
