How do you calm down a child who has adhd?

Consistency: There are lots of non-medical things you can do to help a child with adhd. Schedules are important with these kids. Getting plenty of rest really helps. Setting up expectations as well as consequences is essential. Despite some parents best efforts this is not enough. You may wish to consult your doctor about further treatment.

Follow guidelines: The amer acad of peds has published practice standards for the diagnosis & treatment of adhd. Primary among the standards of care is the use of stimulant medication. These medications are incredibly safe and repair the neurologic deficit of adhd. All the other things you'd do you would do for any child: consistent routine, good diet, good sleep, exercise.
