70% of cases of ADHD: have 1 or > comorbid condition. Genetic &/or medical factors like prenatal exposure to alcohol, tobacco or drugs can make ADHD hard to treat. Diagnostic evaluations by a Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrician or Child Psychiatrist & a Child (Neuro)Psychologist guide optimal management: medications, behavioral therapy, environmental changes at home & a Section 504 or IEP at school See CHADD.org.

May not be ADHD: If your child really has ADHD, they should have a positive effect from stimulants. If they do not, the diagnosis should be reconsidered. ADHD is often misdiagnosed. Other diagnoses to be considered include anxiety disorders, depression, physical or sexual abuse or a disorder of affective self regulation. Should be evaluated for learning disabilities also.
