A member asked:

I given up drinking. will the weight gain caused by stopping smoking be cancelled out by the weight loss due to not drinking?

Depends: On how much you were drinking, but congratulations on making some good health choices for yourself. Weight gain following smoking averages about 5 pounds, and isn't an absolute necessity - deal with cravings for sweets and oral needs by having celery and carrot sticks available, and increase your exercise as much as you can. Alcohol has about 120-150 calories per drink, so that may offset it some.
