Tell phlebotomist: Tell the person who draws you blood sample that you tend to faint so that s/he may put you in a safe chair to prevent injury to you and to the person drawing blood. It is not a disease per se. Some people have this reaction. You may wish to talk to your doctor if medication is warranted.

Vasovagal syncope: Make sure that you let the person drawing your blood know that you have vasovagal response or syncope. In response to the skin being punctured the nerves are triggered in the brain stem that causes a slowing of the heart rate, then the blood pressure drops, and fainting occurs from lack of blood flow to the brain. Prior to losing consciousness, the person feels lightheaded and nauseated.
