Anemia: To increase iron absorption to make more red cel ls, one needs to take 65 mg of elemental iron [325 mg ferrous gluconate or fumerate], 1 mg of folic acid, and 1000 mg of Vitamin C daily. you may need a special type of folic acid, L-methyl folic acid in order to absorb iron. if you are taking Nexium (esomeprazole) or Prilose. Eating iron rich foods like liver, broccoli, red meat, and kale also will help
