I do not know what: He said it would do. Xanax (alprazolam) once daily will not treat a serious underlying anxiety disorder. It is short acting and only lasts for a few hours, unless it is the controlled released long-acting form. Anxiety should be treated more directly, depending on the type. A psychiatrist or mental health professional can give you a better idea whether other meds or psychotherapy can help you more.
