No specific level: AFP is used in the surveillance for liver cancer in patients with liver cirrhosis irrespective of cause. Its done every 6 months along with ultrasound of the liver. A normal range is less than 10. A level greater than 10 does not mean that there is liver cancer especially in persons with liver disease, that is why serial measurements are done. A liver mass plus elevated AFP is more concerning.
