Multiple theories which have included vascular phenomena (think blood vessel blockages, or constricted/dilated effect to simplify), depression, and psychological stress. Potential risk factors include migraine,heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, all have been studied and are treated aggressively in these patients. No absolute etiology (cause) as of yet. Rarely recurs
