Time for a visit: Mental health issues are sometimes difficult to pin down in childhood. The presentations vary and require some training to sort out those that respond to simple measures from those needing specific professional help. Your pcp or pediatrician may have screening tools they use in the office to aid this process.A visit to rule out medical issues and provide specific referral would be wise.

Depends: It depends on what exactly you are looking for. There are two types of typical methods of evaluating or assessing for mental health diagnoses. 1) A psychologist can conduct a variety of batteries of tests to help determine specific areas of strengths and weaknesses, as well as diagnoses and provide recommendations. 2) A psychiatrist can evaluate and provide a diagnosis and prescribe medications.
