Possibly: Alcohol is absorbed into the blood more easily after the stomach is removed. There are a few studies that suggest that patients with alcoholism who undergo stomach removal may have more difficulties with their alcoholism afterwards. It is unlikely that gastrectomy increases the risk of alcoholism in patients who have not had prior problems with abuse or a family history.
