What actually works for getting rid of a cough and cold? everything i take doesn't seem to help at all.

Not much : There is no treatment to shorten the duration of a cold, you just have to wait it out. If the cough is particularly bothersome the best cough suppressants are opiate syrups like Codeine or hydrocodone.
