Infection and yes: An infection, usually viral or bacterial can irritate and inflame your voice box (laryngitis). Viruses are common and may need to be "worked out" over time with resting your voice, keeping your "fluids up" and using throat sprays or mild otc pain meds as needed to alleviate any pain, etc.
