See answer: Most common cause in an otherwise healthy young female would be a UTI which would be confirmed by a urinalysis and culture. Interstitial cystitis (ic), a non-infectious inflammation of bladder, would be a consideration if no infection. Both UTI and ic usually associated with urinary frequency and discomfort. Urinary retention not common in this age group. Kidney stone in lower ureter less likely.
