Precisely!: In emotional (di)stress, there's release of cortisol, and norepinephrine and Epinephrine of the sympathetic nervous system flight or fight responses. This keeps the body in a hyperalert state, so there's no way to relax and recover quickly. So there's release of substance p, that increases the pain response, and this is facilitated, and upregulated to cause the stress response to make the pain response more intense.
