Mono or flu?: The duration and type of symptoms is very suggestive of mononucleosis. Mono for short, aka "kissing disease" because it is a virus spread through the saliva. If you have mononucleosis, it's important to be careful of certain complications such as an enlarged spleen. Rest and adequate fluids are key to recovery. To be sure, a primary care office can run a test. Flu generally has a shorter course.
