I see some doctors say sludge in gb is normal whereas others say it's not. what exactly does it mean when you have sludge and you have some pain?

Dr. Agos Luca answered

Not really normal: Biliary sludge is a mixture of precipitated material (cholesterol crystals, calcium salts, pigment, etc.). The evolution of biliary sludge is variable: it may disappear, wax and wane, or progress to gallstones. If there are no symptoms, usually no treatment is necessary. If symptoms are present (pain) or complications occur, cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) is indicated.
