Yes: Tsh is a very good screening test for thyroid function but it's not produced by the thyroid. If your TSH is low you probably have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), if it's high you probably have hypothyroidism (low thyroid function); however, other mechanisms may account for abnormal TSH levels (abnormal pituitary function). Testing your thyroid hormone levels (t3, t4) is more complete.
