A member asked:

I am having noticeable hair loss 20yrold ferritin level of 21, could that be causing it? what would other symptoms to watch for be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Low-normal ferritin: Many references to low iron causing hair loss. A good study last year failed to confirm any association of low iron with hair loss. If iron is low, look for a source of blood loss. Low iron is always due to a cause which must be identified. Heavy menstrual bleeding? Pregnancy? Thyroid low? See your dr.
