Contaminated: Once the time limit is passed or if contaminated (like with chlorinated water), can do odd things not attributable to the test. If properly (-) in correct window (2 min), then they were negative.

Not reliable: I would not make much of this because there are so many substances in the water that can render the test falsely positive!
