Heart rhythm change: If your heart rate suddenly changes, the most common cause is a change from your normal pacemaker induced rate to an abnormal rhythm. This can happen if the heart rhythm goes down an different electrical path in the heart but it can also be due to endocrine problems (eg thyroid), medications, and even stress. The three tests we start with are blood work, an ekg and a halter monitor.
