Depends : It is as good as any other antidepressant-- there is no good evidence that any antidepressant is more effective than others (but different people respond differently to the same med, so if one drug doesn't help, another might). However: for most depressed patients, the effects of antidepressants are indistinguishable from placebo. Optimal treatment is psychotherapy (or psychotherapy + meds).
