Can you explain if it's true that people with ocd are supressing negative emotions?

Avoiding anxiety: People suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder are usually very frightened of experiencing their anxiety, or things that may create anxiety for them (such as dirt, contamination by germs, etc.). Suppression of anxiety is a way to control the situation, and to avoid the pain of the emotions that are so feared. There are many techniques available to help learn how to release emotions.

Agree w'Dr Sternberg: The repetitive behaviors that people with ocd are compelled to act out are attempts to block out negative thoughts and feelings which would make the person feel guilty or "bad" about themselves. "step on a crack, break your mother's back" is an example of children's need not to feel negatively towards their mother ; fearing that their thoughts could make bad things happen 2 mom.
