Can you help? is 100 mg lithium orotate dangerous for someone weighing 103 pounds?

It could be toxic: Psychiatrists usually prescribe lithium carbonate, which is better studied. Orotate is sold as a dietary supplement and contains more lithium than the carbonate salt, about 4x more by weight. Lithium in general can be dangerous with numerous serious potential adverse reactions blood levels are monitored as well as clinical issues. Only take lithium under a competent doctor's care.

Unknown: I say "unknown" because dietary supplements are not regulated like medication so you may either be getting more or less than the intended amount. Most dietary supplements don't even contain what they say they do. Lithium carbonate (a medication) 100mg is safe so long as you're not dehydrated, and not taking NSAIDs or certain anti-hypertensives. A blood draw can verify safety.

WHY TAKE OTC LITHIUM: Lithium is a valuable agent in medical practice but has a rather narrow therapeutic range, and we monitor via blood levels. If level too high serious toxicity could ensue, with some rather disastrous consequences. Would talk to your doctor about the use of lithium. It is certainly NOT for everyone.
