Breast milk : Since your baby is six months old, 4 ounces water may be given in 24 hours, but the best formula is breast milk. Water has no nutrients or calories. It is important to ensure good growth and adequate caloric intake. If the baby has an itchy rash, this may indicate eczema which can be associated with food allergies. Your doctor can order a rast food allergy panel to help determine food allergies.

Don't need water: When you are a baby. You get plenty of fluids from breast milk or formula. If they were cranky at night, and you are desperate for quiet, you could give them a small 2-4oz bottle at bedtime because you don't want to rot their teeth with formula, or anything with sugar. Generally they don't need additional water until after age 1, because they need all the calories they can get in their "food".
