A member asked:

I have been having a chronic cough with mucus and trouble breathing. what will my doctor most likely do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Depending on how sick you appear and their own personal preferences and biases, he/she may empirically treat you with an antibiotic or possibly advise symptomatic relief with a cough expectorant or suppressant. If wheezing is present, a bronchodilator will be prescribed. If your oxygen level is low or your exam suggests lung involvement, a chest x-ray may be done.
