Why do i have severe fatigue?

Many possible causes: Check in w/your family doctor regarding your severe fatigue. Possible causes include but are not limited to depression, anemia (low blood), hypothyroidism (low thyroid), hypogonadism (low testosterone), obesity, infection (tb & aids come to mind), and cancer. Heart disease (heart failure or silent ischemia) & hypoxia from copd/emphysema due to tobacco use could do this. Cfs is DX of exclusion.

Many causes: There are many causes for fatigue. You need to see your doctor for a complete evaluation. Sometimes a simple blood test will be all your doctor needs to find the cause of your fatigue. Sometimes the cause it not so straight forward and several tests may be necessary to find the cause. Start by making an appointment with your primary care physician, for a complete history and physical.

Multifactorial: Chronic fatigue syndrome is a multifactorial consequence of hormonal, immune system and nervous system dysfunction resulting from genetic predispositions and dietary and environmental insults. These factors impair the patient's ability to produce energy and they end up chronically fatigued. Poor diet, suboptimal sleep, food and other allergies contribute.

Sleep concern: Chronic daytime fatigue is sentinel fibromyalgia symptom; chronic non-restorative sleep likely associated. IMO, good portion of patients' interrupted sleep is caused by underlying chronic pain. Interestingly, many patients with chronic pain so accustomed to ongoing pain they neglect to spontaneously report this symptom; unless asked. Perhaps fatigue-impaired cognition helps to mask pain.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated.
