Yes.: The risk of vertical transmission increases with increasing gestational age at maternal infection. Conversely, the risks of intracranial lesions and serious neurodevelopmental sequelae decrease with increasing gestational age at maternal infection. Rarely, fetal infection leads to stillbirth or neonatal death.
