Birthmark?: Are you sure you're referring to a birthmark - a dark pigmented spot on the skin? It's okay if your baby doesn't have one. Many babies don't have birthmarks.

Don't look too hard: Birthmarks are common but aren't always something to want to see. One type of birthmark, a congenital nevus (a mole that is present at the time of birth), actually have a 10% risk of becoming cancerous later in life. Some birthmarks taht are vascular can grow and become a problem, although most involute, shrink and disappear. If your baby doesn't have a birthmark, don't worry. It's perfectly ok.

Definitions matter: Imperfections in the skin surface will arise in life for everyone. The term "birthmark" is most appropriate when used for marks that are present at birth.There are a few blood vessel "birthmarks" that are present at birth but that do not become evident for a few weeks or months when their position just under the top layer of skin becomes evident.It's okay if a kid doesn't have a mark.
