Fear of illness: Denial is one of the most troubling things doctors deal with. Speculating what may or may not happen is not going to make things disappear. Always better safe than sorry and, although surgery seems very unlikely from what you describe, if it is necessary, than that is what will have to happen. Go and be seen and wish you well.

No to worry: It's much better to be safe and know what's going on with your body, than to ignore something. At your age, the likelihood that it is benign is very high. But not knowing could mean you are ignoring something very important. Build up the courage and make the appointment, you can do it!
