Need more info: Rib pain is likely going to be musculoskeletal in origin but could also be referred. Factors that exacerbate or relieve pain or if it is reproducible could help narrow down the possibilities.

?muscular: Soreness in the rib cage may be due to strain in the intercostal muscles. Are you performing any activities that could cause strain of these rib cage muscles? Is there any history of chest wall trauma? Have you been coughing a lot? Have your md examine you to be sure that the soreness is in the rib cage and not the lungs or elsewhere. He/she will order appropriate tests.
