Ingrown nail: Sounds like he has an infected ingrown fingernail. This needs to be seen today by his doctor for evaluation - he likely needs antibiotics and/or part removal of the nail. Until see doc, soak hand at least 10 minutes every hour in room temperature water with or without epsom salts.
