Sciatica: There may be collateral innervation from other nerves that supply some sensation to different areas and you just do not feel the pains ANS tingling as much in those areas, so a sciatic nerve irritation/inflammation/pinching may cause sporadic patterns down the leg area affected and supplied by the nerve. Sciatica pain: Sciatica is most often caused by a herniated lumbar disc usually starting in your bum and radiating down back of leg to foot with or withou tingling and numbness. Need to get MRI and determine what pathology is or is not present. So simple answer is that depending on pathology will determine levels of pain/discomfort.
