Psychotic depression: Many times psychosis and depression combine in a person, as one single condition like schizoaffective disorder or as separate conditions. The addition of an antidepressant to the antipsychotic will help to reduce the mood symptoms and improve the overall condition. Citalopram may take up to 4-8 weeks to show the full effect. Stay on the meds and consult with your doctor.

Unlikely.: Depression is so severe that the one suffering from it has psychotic symptoms. When the psychosis is treated, depression is more prominent, even if it coexisted before. Yes, cypralex will help the depression, providing the dosage is therapeutic but it may take awhile, 2-4 weeks for the benefits to be felt. Meanwhile, she can continue on the antipsychotic which can augment the antidepressant.
