I am with a guy who had leukemia as a child and has beat it this far (now 20 years old). can it come back?

Probably not, but: Leukemia can recur many years after it first appears, but that is unusual. 5 years is a long remission, and it is unlikely to recur after that. However, other cancers and blood disorders may occur due to treatment of the leukemia.

Unlikely: Congratulations on your fight. It would be very unlikely for your leukemia to come back, although secondary leukemias from the chemotherapy are still possible (though also unlikely).
