Post-viral cough: It is not unusual to have a persistent cough following a viral upper respiratory infection. This can due to inflammation of the windpipe (tracheitis) or throat irritation from a post-nasal drip. Treatment may include otc cough suppressants like Robitussin dm. You may need a stronger prescription cough med or a nasal med like a steroid nasal spray for a drip. Your pmd can decide which is best.
